Rita Ebel (64), also known as »Lego granny«, has been building ramps out of Lego bricks for two years. She herself has been in a wheelchair for 27 years and wants to make the issue of accessibility visible in public spaces. She has already built 22 colorful Lego ramps for her home in Hanau – a total of 67 in Germany and beyond. Rita Ebel accepts used Lego bricks that are no longer in use as donations and recycles them for ramps in public spaces, e.g. at stores, in children’s hospices, etc. to bridge steps to entrance doors and make them accessible for wheelchair users or people with walkers. Instructions for building ramps are already available in nine languages.
